Welcome to the website of the Locost Formula and Locost Club.

You can build your own Locost sports car, based on the Lotus 7 replica car designed and made famous by the late Colin Chapman. Join the Locost Car Club of SA on breakfast runs, Super Trax days and other social events arranged by the club, or in conjunction with other likeminded car clubs.

The “Locost” combines a high power-to-weight ratio and excellent handling characteristics in a relatively low cost car giving arguably the best bang for buck the average person can afford.

With an active bunch of car nuts in the club, you will find plenty of help and support in acquiring or building your own personalised dream sports car.

Acceleration in these little beasts is amazing even if fitted with relatively modest engines like the Ford Rocam 1600 or Nissan 1400. You need to experience this to believe it!

Join the club and if you are interested in racing, you can partake in the Locost Formula which is the club’s own formula, run in conjunction with other formulas. Partake in sprint races as part of the Lotus Challenge Regional series, as well as endurance races as part of the Sports Racing Association (SRA). These very different types of races cater for every taste, and provide a variety of challenges allowing you different ways to enjoy your car. For Locost Formula racing strict rules govern the parts used on the car, and with a cap on power output, a minimum weight, control tyres etc, this formula provides a very fair and affordable way of racing. Skill, preparation, planning, strategy and loads of practise (mostly on Trax days) as opposed to a big budget, will see you doing well.

The Locost Car Club of SA is dedicated to all things Locost, social as well as racing. Join us at a Trax day for a passenger ride, but be warned, once you have experienced this car, you’ll want one too!
